Ontario Ginger Beers

GB001 Copland Brewing Co - Toronto

Minimum Bid: $1500

Range:$2000-3000

Sold: $2000

The Copland Brewing Co is one of the rarest Toronto ginger beers. Only a handful have surfaced in 40 years. The bottle was made by the Medalta Potteries. The glaze is a rich orange brown colour. Mint condition. In 46 auctions, we've sold one of these, and here it is for an encore. Don't miss it again!

GB003 Toronto Pure Ginger Beer

Minimum Bid: $400

Range:$600-800

Sold: $400

This quart size The Toronto Pure Ginger Beer Co is an exceedingly rare bottle. Certainly one of the hardest Toronto bottles to get. There are perhaps three or four intact examples known. The bottle itself is a scarce and attractive type made by the RCP Co Akron Ohio. Couple of 1/4" thin base edge flakes. Otherwise excellent!

GB004 Murray - London

Minimum Bid: $400

Range:$600-800

Sold: $400

The John Murray ginger beer from London Ont is one of my favourites. The squat pint size with the blob top is an attractive and rare form. I suspect these may have been made by the Glass Brothers Pottery of the same city. This particular bottle has an amazing glaze to the shoulder and top. The glaze was intended to be beige but turned out a lovely drippy brown. Mint condition. A stellar example of a rare Ontario bottle.

GB006 Ross Bros - London

Minimum Bid: $300

Range:$400-600

Sold: $300

A rare and unusual ginger beer bottle from the Ross Brothers, London Ont. I suspect the bottle is a product of one of the Akron Ohio potteries. The style is unique among Canadian ginger beers. The size is also odd, sort of a large squat pint. Terrific dark chocolate coloured glaze to the shoulder and neck. Some minor base edge flaking. Couple of tiny nibbles off the sharp shoulder. Near mint condition. A real tough bottle to find in this good condition.

GB023 Smith Brothers

Minimum Bid: $150

Range:$200-300

Sold: Not

I have heard from different people that this bottle is from Stirling Ontario. It may also be from Belleville where there was a Smith & Co in the 1870s. Impossible to say for sure given the name, but I think this one is likely Eastern Ontario. The bottle itself is unusual with characteristics of both redware and stoneware. I think it is stoneware that has been coloured from burial. The form and lip finish are also a bit different from the typical Eastern Ontario types. A rare bottle, I have only seen a handful.
