Ginger Beers

GB001 Reed Brothers - Guelph

Minimum Bid: $300

Range:$500-600

Sold: $300

The Reed Brothers is a rare and unusual ginger beer from Guelph Ontario. It is one of only a handful of blue transferred Ontario bottles and definitely the rarest of the lot. This example has some fine hairline cracking around the neck and top which appear only glaze deep, as well as a couple of scrapes to the body. This is a real tough bottle to find in any condition and this one displays really well.

GB002 Reinhart - Guelph

Minimum Bid: $150

Range:$200-300

Sold: $210

Until recently, I belived there was just one style of the Royal City Mineral Water Works ginger beer from A. Reinhart Guelph Ontario. But I have two in this auction that are quite different. This first one is the standard version and the type pictured in the book. Note the form and contour of the body and how the lip is quite straight. Some light chipping and a 1" hairline in the top at the rear. Some stain to the body from burial. Marked and matching top. Bottle marked by Kennedy Glasgow. A real good example of this one, especially with the matching top.

GB003 Reinhart - Guelph

Minimum Bid: $300

Range:$500-600

Sold: $300

This variant of the Reinhart ginger beer is quite a different shape than the previous lot. The bottle is narrower at the base and does not taper so much in the shoulder and neck. The top is not straight, but tapers visibly. Mint condition. The brown slotch you see to the left of the transfer is a blob of tan glaze. Marked Kennedy Glasgow. Check your shelves to see if you have this bottle!

GB005 Niagara Falls Bottling Co

Minimum Bid: $200

A scarce Niagara Falls Bottling Co ginger beer. The bottle is a rare form likely made by the Glass Brothers Pottery in London Ontario. Some fine hairline cracking through the blob top down into the neck. 1/4" chip off the inside blob edge. Bit of stain to the body. Sounds worse than it looks. Note there is a wood crate marked by this same company in our Miscellaneous section.

GB006 Chateau Laurier - Ottawa

Minimum Bid: $200

Range:$300-400

Sold: $600

When I got this one, it was no more than a base, fully beheaded. And there was quite a bit of rust. But the base was undamaged and the transfer looked great. It has been fully restored. The base is now perfect with no stain. The shoulder and top are perfectly replaced. A truly mint one could run you $3000. Here is one you can afford that looks amazing!

GB007 Tune & Son - London

Minimum Bid: $200

Range:$300-400

Sold: $300

A terrfic example of a J. Tune & Son ginger beer from London Ontario. Note there are at least two variants of this bottle. This is the type with a lot more detail and shading of the mountains in the background. Near mint with only minor imperfections. The bottle was made by the Glass Brothers Pottery also of London.

Sold: $200

A pair of ginger beers from Charles Wilson Toronto Ontario. The quart left is a scarce bottle. Marked Price Bristol. Mint condition. The pint right is near mint with a couple of scrapes down the right side. Marked and matching stopper. Bottle marked Kennedy Glasgow. The pint has one of my favourite renditions of the squirrel trademark. Great examples of both these bottles.
