How do I bid?
When the auction opens, links on both the Homepage and Current Auction pages are activated. Clicking on these links will take you to our Homepage on the HiBid auction platform. We encourage you to register with HiBid and to bid through their platform. Important: Register in advance. If you wait until the last minute, you are likely to miss out.
The auction is posted for ten days, and you can bid anytime. On the closing Saturday, lots begin to close at 6pm EST. The close is staggered with 60 seconds between lots.
Each lot closes on its own timer. If someone bids in the last two minutes, the timer resets adding another two minutes. If you are outbid in the last moments, this gives you time to bid again.
Do I have to use HiBid?
The HiBid platform is the best way for you to participate in the live sale, but you do not have to use it.
If for any reason you are not comfortable using HiBid, contact us. We can take your bids by phone or email in advance. We ask that absentee bids be placed well before the close begins at 6pm EST on the closing Saturday. If you bid this way, you will not be notified if you are outbid.

Why do we use HiBid?
HiBid offers a high quality auction platform used by professional auctioneers all over Canada. HiBid is well designed and provides an excellent user experience. Your HiBid account lets you easily track your bids. You are notified by email when outbid. The close is staggered with 45 seconds between lots, so you can manage your bids. If you are outbid in the last moments, a timer starts that gives you two minutes to bid again. We like this format, and we hope you do too!
What are the bidding increments?
Each lot will list a minimum bid and a current bid price. If the lot has not been opened, you can bid the minimum. If there is already a bid on the lot, then you must bid the next increment. Bid increments vary with the price of the item:
- Up to $240: Increments of $10
- $250 to $475: Increments of $25
- $500 – $950: Increments of $50
- $1000 – $2400: Increments of $100
- $2500 – $4750: Increments of $250
- $5000+: Increments of $500
Are there reserves on any lots?
In an average auction there are a few lots with reserves. This is indicated in the lot listing.
Is there a Buyers’ Premium?
The buyers’ premium is 14%. This is added, then applicable taxes.
Does tax apply to sales?
Canadian residents pay sales tax. The tax varies depending on your province. You pay tax on the total cost of the lot – including the Buyers’ Premium.
